Buses from Juan Santamaria International Airport with Bus Routes and Times

Passengers arriving at Juan Santamaria International Airport have various ground transportation options, including rental cars, rideshares, taxis, hotel shuttle services, and buses.

The bus stops at San José Juan Santamaria Airport can be found along the main road Public Bus Station Airport, located behind the parking garage, to the left, and around the garage.

Buses leave from the airport's bus stops in both directions. You can see which direction the bus is heading at the front of the bus, and you can ask the bus driver if you are unsure.

The most common bus services to and from the airport are Grupo TUASA, red and white buses, and Station Wagon, yellow and orange buses.

The route can be covered by bus if you take the "Montezuma-San José" public line from the airport.

The trip takes about 20 minutes, and one-way tickets are less than $1.

Schedule

  • Every day between 4:00 am and 10:00 pm, Grupo TUASA buses run every 6 to 12 minutes from San José Juan Santamaria Airport to San José and Alajuela.
  • Travel time to San José Bus Terminal on the north side of Parque de la Merced is 30 to 40 minutes, and Terminal TUASA in Alajuela is 20 minutes.

Tickets

  • Tickets can be purchased on the bus for 675 CRC for a single journey.
  • There is no additional charge for luggage.
  • To pay for your ticket, you'll need Costa Rican colon; remember that the bus driver usually doesn't have much change.
  • The ATMs in the Main Terminal allow you to withdraw cash.
