Juan Santamaria International Airport Train Transfers

Passengers arriving at Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) can take a taxi, share a ride, take the bus, or rent a car.

Costa Rica’s capital is San Jose, where top-notch parks, hotels, theaters, and historic structures, as well as lush hills and vast plains, permeate the entire national territory.

December to March are the busiest for visitors to San Jose. During these months, expect increased traffic at Juan Santamaria International Airport. The tourist season coincides with the most active months for passenger traffic.

If you're flying via SJO, arrive at the airport an hour and a half before departure to avoid hassles.

If you're traveling on business, try to arrive at the airport station at least two hours before your flight.

The best way to get away from the airport is to take Route 1 to Alajuela, which is close to the airport's road entrance and takes only 25 minutes to downtown San Jose.

Despite this, there is no station or rail service at the airport, even though the rail line connecting downtown Alajuela to San José's Atlantic Station passes close to the airport.

You must take a taxi, rental car, or bus to the Alajuela train station, which is 2.50 kilometers from San Jose International Airport.

Following that, take a train to Atlantic Railroad Station, which is 22 kilometers away and will take you to downtown San Jose. It costs only $6 to get from SJO to the Alajuela train station by riding a taxi cab.
